Offered The World, But Wanted Wisdom

Well, was the guy dumb for asking for insight?  I said at the close of my last blog that the answer is yes and no.  I’d like to explore that a little bit here.

With good intentions, this man wanted insight/wisdom to lead a group of people who had had a history of being bullish, proud, easily swayed, and often disgruntled.  A complaining lot quite actually.  Who wouldn’t need insight not to mention a boatload of patience to lead such a group?  We all would.  And faced with the task that was given him by his father, this young man (around 20) felt overwhelmed and in great need of discernment. So, in this respect, the young man was not dumb for asking for insight rather than riches, women, and popularity.

On the other hand, the young man who was given wisdom by God like no one before or after him was dumb.  Let me be clear.  He wasn’t dumb for asking for wisdom; it is never dumb to ask for that.  However, after asking for and receiving this endowment, this young man acted like, well, a young man.

I’ll get more specific about who this young man was and his downward spiral in coming blogs.
