Intentions and Outcome

I’ve found that most people have good intentions.  And while such intentions are commendable, they don’t necessarily tell the story’s end.  In fact, I have found that a person’s life often veers far from their desires.  That is because intentions and desires only tell part of the story.  The other and arguably more important part of the equation is what direction is a person heading; what path are they on.  As the old adage says, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”  How true that is!

Let me give a simple but true example.  No one who gets married does so for the purpose of getting a divorce or lesser of having a bad marriage.  No!  All who get married do so for the purpose of living happily ever after.  While this desire is good and right, the way many live in their marriages tell quite a different story.  A man wants a strong marriage but spends hours viewing internet porn.  Good intention, bad path!  A wife wants a romantic relationship with her husband, but gets on the nagging path.  Good intentions, but wrong road.

Instead of checking your intentions today, think carefully about your direction.  What road are you on?
